Archaeologists for Autism
I am a professional archaeologist and the father of Becky, who along with being autistic is blind and has epilepsy. It is hard to find things for her to participate in and enjoy. She is involved with some programs with other autistic children. She participates in Surfers for Autism one day events for children within the spectrum and their families. The events are amazing. I started thinking that all children love dinosaurs and archaeology and some parents have told me their autistic children love history. As a result I came up with the concept of Archaeologists for Autism.
Archaeologists for Autism invites you to join the festivities at the historic Sams House at the Pine Island Conservation Area on Merritt Island as we provide a day of archaeology, history and paleontology activities to children touched by autism and their families.
At our Archeologists for Autism event, children on the autism spectrum and their families will be walking the grounds of an actual prehistoric and historic archaeological site. families and be able to enjoy a wide range of activities related to archaeology, history and paleontology; Native American heritage; live music; face-painting; and much more. We aim to provide children on the spectrum and their families a chance to experience these activities in a fun, low stress environment. The entire event is FREE.
Archaeologists for Autism is a 501c3 non-profit organization and we are totally dependent on donations. Every penny goes to running the annual event. To learn more about us please visit our website and Facebook page.
