Imagine living in a community where your neighbors wake up hungry. Imagine living in a community where your neighbors grocery shop at the Dollar General or gas station. Imagine living in a community where your neighbors don’t have a car and the nearest grocery store is 2.6 miles away. Imagine living in a community where it’s easier to find a gun than a tomato. This is where I live, this is my community. We don’t need your sympathy, but we do need your help fighting food insecurity.
You may have heard that the property I’ve been farming, Battlefield Farm, has been sold and I have to relocate. A 1.5-acre plot of land has become available that I want to serve as the permanent home for the farm. We’re looking to raise $10,000.00 to purchase and cover the cost of relocating and permitting. Your contribution will help us continue to serve a community suffering from the effects of living in a food desert.
Your gift helps us keep the good work going! Last year, we harvested 700 lbs. of produce that we sold at the farm and at the Eastside Sunday Market. We gave away more than 1900 lbs. of fresh green beans through a partnership with Hughes Farm in Crossville. Our pay it forward CSA option gave fresh food to families who needed it most. One grandmother who cares for her three disabled grandchildren, received a box of fresh produce at her doorstep every week this summer, thanks to someone sponsoring her share. That’s what Battlefield Farm is all about, helping others.
