Our Missing Piece

My whole life all i loved to do was pretend to be a mom. Growing up with 4 other siblings in a low income family, my dreams were to finish school get a degree and be something. My end goal was to be stable enough in my life to be a mom. We did everything right, I got my AS/AA degree in Crime Scene, we both have full time jobs and we have been madly in love since high school. We are truly blessed, we have good jobs, great families and in general good health. We just have an empty space in our hearts.

Josh and I met in October of 2003, and it was love at first sight. Through thick and thin at just 15 & 16 years old were survived it all. We knew we would be togehter for ever. Just 6 years later when I was 21 and he 22 we knew we were ready to start trying to have a baby. After months of trying with no luck, a trip to the doctors changed our life. We were told that we needed 2,000.00 for a procedure called Hysterosalpingogram or HSG. This procedure was meant to check my ovaries and falopian tubes for a clear passage. After saving and some borrowing, we had the procedure. The result? I have a blocked  right tube and getting pregnant on our own would be harder than we thought. This lack of a tube has cut my chances of preganacy down 50%. I have also been diagnoised with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom (PCOS). This means that I dont ovulate regularly and most of my follicles (eggs) cling to my ovaries and form cyst. I have gone up to a year without ovulating or menstrating. Our great doctor at Palm Beach Fertility Center perscibed a few different treatments that gave us hope. I originally took 3 rounds of 50mg Chlomid, which is a fertitlity medication to premote follicle health and amount. After that I took 1000mg of Metformin for about 9 months. It was determined that our next step would be timed ovulation, which consist of multiple visits a month to the doctor to determine my bodys ovulation schedual. This is a high monthly fee, and if that doesnt work IVF is next. We were and are devestated, we just couldnt understand why us?! We have always helped all of our friends and family when they were in need. This time we are the ones in need.

Now 11 years together we are going through a rough time. It is hard to explain the pain we are going through. Just know it is an internal ache that never goes away. Sometimes its hard to see all our friends and family around us having babies and celebrating such miracles, when we have tried so hard to be the best we could be, and no luck. We have been blessed in another way, within the last yr we took in our 2 little nieces as our own since they are in need. At that moment we knew being selfish wouldnt help them or us, so we took the 3 yr old and 4 yr old in. I believe this has helped us learned truly how much we are ment to be parents. We do love them so much, as if they were our own. Ther is just something missing. This temporary custody has put a slight damper on our savings, but to be honest we wouldnt have it any other way.

We dont expect anyone to think that this is so important that its worth funding or donating too, but to us this is all we have ever wanted and all that we have worked for. I think to my self sometimes that if i have the opportunity to be a mom, i would be great at it. Little do people know is that health insurances dont cover infertility and even though i pay into it, it doesnt cover any procedure or medications i have taken so far or will in the future.
