Belize to Cali: Send Duke Home!

Donation protected
Hi there! I’m Duke!

I was born into a dog pack on a remote island in Belize, and I’ve had a great life here. I spent my puppyhood chasing iguanas, splashing in the Caribbean waves, digging in the sand, and getting pats and love from the people at the research station where I grew up.

Now it’s time for my next adventure. I might have stolen one too many flip flops from guests at the research station—I can’t help myself, they’re so tasty!—and now it’s time for me to leave.

But Belize isn’t the easiest place for a dog to live. Most of my friends have no human families to take care of them. My sister, Trixie (in the picture below), was recently hit by a car and died. The rest of my family is often very sick, or in danger at the hands of crocodiles and strangers.

My human companions are trying to save me. I don’t know what I would do without Alton and Eric. They’ve found me rescuers in Santa Cruz, California! I have no idea where that is, but I hear it's beautiful and I can’t wait to see my new home. In order to get there, I will need to fly over 2,000 miles, and that’s where you come in. Alton and Eric are hoping to raise $1,000 on GoFundMe to help with the costs for veterinary visits, transportation, and airfare. Every little bit helps.

Your contributions will allow me to find a new family who will love me and keep me safe. Thank you for helping me to get home! On to my next adventure!

Love, Duke

From Eric & Alton

Duke is one of the sweetest dogs we have ever met. No one can resist his adorable face. But we are in fear for his life. With the recent death of Duke’s older sister, Trixie, we lost one of our best friends. Dogs in Belize rarely live to old age. We love this puppy, and we need to get him to safety before anything happens to him.

Eric is a student researcher, and Alton is the assistant station manager of the Oceanic Society research station in Belize. We’ve found Duke a safe place to fly to in California, but we lack the funds to get him there. It is very difficult to find safe havens for homeless dogs like Duke, and we feel this is his only chance. With your contribution to Duke’s plane ticket, you will give him the gift of a happy, long life.

Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. We will update you on Duke’s progress along the way!

Sincerely,

Eric & Alton
