The Legend of Tuition

Donation protected
Hi,
I’m a student at the University of Victoria. And it’s my dream to become a writer. I feel like my situation is a bit of a long story. In 2011 I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. The job I had at the time was incredibly stressful and unhealthy for me. It got to the point where I could barely leave my house, and was only doing so to go to work. Even going to the grocery store was a struggle. Through the encouragement of my psychologist, husband, and family and friends I applied to go back to school. In November 2012 I learned I had been accepted to the University of Victoria. My goal was the writing program, but it’s difficult to get into and I didn’t get accepted.

After working my butt off in my first year to meet all the requirements, I found out in June 2014 that I had been accepted. I was overjoyed, and gave notice to my job that I wouldn’t be coming back. No more stressful work environments, no more panic attacks in the bathroom. It was both scary, and a huge relief to me. My dream was coming true. Until I found out I was no longer going to be able to pay for it. I was able to receive funding for my first years tuition from the government in the form of loans and grants; however, my application for this year has been denied.

It was incredibly disappointing, to say the least, since tuition is expensive, and I’m struggling to figure out where I am going to get all the money to pay for it this year, especially because I no longer work full-time, and I am unable to work while I am in school. I drive 90min to and from school (3hr round trip) from where I live because that’s where my husband was able to find work. Because of this I need a commuter car on top of all my tuition costs.

This is kind of weird for me, since I don’t know you, and I’ll probably never meet you, but if you can find it in your heart to pledge anything towards the cause of fulfilling my dream I would be so grateful. I have set my goal at 2000$ to cover my first semester. Anything over and above that will go towards paying my second semester, bills, rent, etc. I also would like to thank you as much as possible, so I have set up rewards for certain pledge amounts.
