This page is set-up for who most of us know as "Skippy", or Mal Urbano. For those who know Mal you know that he has had his up's and his down's this year and have overcame a lot phyically, emointally and mentally to get to the point of finding a spot in life he has been happy and content with.
On Monday June 30th 2014 he set out (with saving up the little money he had) to go outside his comfort zone to travel to the united states and expolore a bit. Mal and his friends around him where so excited he was doing something and doing something for HIMSELF for a change!
He was on the road and made it into the United States and stayed over at a hotel for the night (in Great Falls Montana). After a good night's rest he was back to starting to travel on Tuesday July 1st for his trip and went onto the highway to carry out his trip (and maybe the happiest he been in for a long time feeling very independant).
Mal was driving on U.S Highway 89 east of Great Falls when he was smashed into from behind from a very high speed and then on the side of his car.The details of the crash and investagation is still unknown.
After the crash Mal was unconscious and was airlifted by Mercy Flight helicopter to the hospital. Going into the hospital they did A LOT of testing on Mal to see where he was and he regained consciousness. He has staples from a laceration on his ear and has been having memory issues and is dealing with amnesia.
He doesn't remember the car wreck even when explained a quite a few times and because of the trauma and injury is forgetting. He has some sense of being "here" and able to think. Yesterday whilst I was on the phone with him the new nurse who wants to trasfter him to rehab to work with his memory brought up insurance and how much the insurance was willing to cover and how much he would owe.
Mal still being confused and not understanding what happened was in a panic and was saying "no, I'm fine, I'm feeling better really.." and started to try to get out of bed and take his IV off. Thankfully he was stopped and he was able to put his mind at ease with the guideance of friends telling him he shouldn't worry about that. He keeps thinking he's in Canada (his home) and it's heart breaking to have to remind him he isn't -- but he will be soon.
With the rehab and treatment Mal has a good chance with recovery -- which is GREAT news. However, he's going to have to deal with a lot of grief and upset over his car when he finds out (which can't be saved). It's going to feel like everything he's worked for the past year has been destroyed. We need to help him build up with support showing him it hasn't!!!!
We'd like him to use this money towards making a small "dent" into whatever is worrying him about this whole tramatic experince, may it be paying to towing company to get his belongings out the car (his guitar, bango, and laptop), using the money to save up for another car, pay off medical bills, or to make sure he has a place to go and rest to after he's out of the hospital.
HOWEVER please don't feel like you have to donate money. I know that Mal would love for you to comment and be supportive, and give good blessings. He would be really touched by any support. So please comment below.
