Women Working For A Change

Mothers In Charge (MIC) is implementing a pilot program, Women Working For A Change (WW4C).  The purpose of the program is to provide on the job training and support to women returning from incarceration.  Statistically, approximately 85% of women who are incarcerated are mothers.  The program will begin in July 2014 with limited funding from the Philadelphia Prison System.  WW4C will employ a maximum of 14 women for 20 hours per week for ten weeks.  Over the course of the ten weeks, the indentified women will receive employment soft skills which includes interviewing, resume writing skills, career wardrobe advice, time management, job search, and job application assistance. In addition, they will receive life skills, workshops including parenting skills, anger management, substance abuse prevention, and peer negotiation skills.

Our current budget only covers part time salaries for the 14 women ($10/hr) and two Program Coordinators.  MIC seeks to provide the women with more than the basics.  We are requesting a financial contribution or in kind donation to help to provide some of the following for these women returning home:

·         Meals which will include breakfast and lunch

·         Tokens for transportation to our office for training and job interviews

·         Supplies needed for work (i.e. clothes, notebooks, pens, pencils)

·         Children’s books, clothes and school supplies

·         Personal toiletries

 

No donation is too small and all donations are appreciated.  Please make your tax deductible donations payable to “Mothers In Charge”.  For those who wish to donate items such as tokens, meals, supplies, please drop them off at our location.  All donors will receive a letter specifying the amount of value for their donation.  With your help, these women will become more productive citizens.
