Help Create Disabled Friendly Home

Donation protected
Recently my family's living situation has changed. We [my parents and I] are currently looking to move to a new, smaller house but our needs are very specific: my brother, Alasdair, suffers from severe and profound learning disabilities [amongst these are microcephaly, IUGR, dwarfism, cerebral palsy and autism] and with this being the case we need to move somewhere completely accessible for someone with limited mobility. My family has lived in the same house for almost thirty years, around fifteen years ago my parents spent a not insubstantial sum of money completely altering the layout of the house and building a fully accessible bathroom (with walk in shower and changing bench) to accommodate my brother's needs.

Looking for a new house in such an emotionally uncertain period of life can be hard at the best of times, but to add to that we must consider the cost of creating an environment for Alasdair which is safe and comfortable for him, which will mean building ramps and adding railings to steps to offer support and a bathroom to meet all his care needs.

These are only the basic things we'll need to make a new home safe for Alasdair, and the cost of making these alterations to any house is never inconsequential, especially for a family not in a financially secure situation.

I am not the sort of person to ask for anything. But any donation at all, regardless of how small, can help offer us some security in the knowledge that whatever happens, Alasdair will be safe in our new home.
