Help this Veteran's Family Stay Afloat

I'm writing this to find help for our family. My husband, Teddy, was medically retired from the army in February with injuries to his foot and shoulder (he's had a dozen surgeries, and had his foot rebuilt twice)-and while he was able to find employment, he's been unable to find anything that pays as much as he made on active duty. To top it off, his full VA benefits have not kicked in yet. Teddy has plans to continue his education this fall,finishing his degree in Ecology, and also work full time, but in the meantime, our bills have piled up and we have run out of options. This morning I was served papers that they are going to take our car.

The hardest part of this has been keeping the situation from our kids- I simply can't imagine how I would explain reposession of our car. 

Before our current situation we were already a very frugal family, buying almost everything secondhand, and growing much of our own food. When he was retired, we took great care to eliminate most of the extras from our lives, including cable tv, dining out, buying pretty much anything but food; to make money we scrapped metal, and had yard sales to make ends meet. 

We've asked family for all the help they could provide, and now we need some outside help.  Anything you can give would help.
The money is all for back due bills. Nothing else.

We're good people, and have nothing but full intentions of paying the kindness we've recieved forward however we can.
