Northern Cheyenne Disaster Relief
Donation protected
In 2012 the Northern Cheyenne Tribe experienced a devestating loss in the wildfires that swept through the country side, this year thirteen architecture students from Portland State University will be taking a journey to Lame Deer, Montana to work with the Spang family in not only recovering from the destruction of the disaster but to find better solutions to living in extreme environments of Lame Deer, Montana.
Within our 10 day trip, we will start by assessing the existing conditions as well as build a mock-up straw bale home to educate both students and community members on construction techniques that will addresss passive ways to deal with extreme climate of Montana. After ten days on site, the team will have setup a plan for Lame Deer, establishing a more resilient community that will be better prepared for natural disasters in the future.
A professor from PSU and a professor from PennState has been working closely with the Spang family over the years in the recovery process. With limited funding, we are hoping to expand our design skills in the follow up trip to other families of the Northen Cheyenne tribe.
We ran into a minor issue in transporation, the university was not able to provide a way for us to get from Portland, Oregon to Lame Deer, Montana. As students, we don't have the financial means to get all 13 students and 2 professors from Portland to Lame Deer.

We are currently seeking $1500.00 for rental vehicles to get the team to our destination. We are very grateful of any donation that can be made, no matter the amount, even a dollar per person will benefit us, and in return, the tribe in a huge way.
