Angela's Spinal Medical Fund

Donation protected
Hi I am Angela’s cousin and I work in the NHS as a nurse. Angela has had previous back surgery in 2004 and had 3 segments fused in the lower lumbar area which left her with reduced mobility and nerve damage which resulted in cauda equine syndrome which has left her with disability. Despite her previous surgery she remained strong and positive and ran her own business from home and carried on with her life to the best of her abilities until recently.

Around 19 months ago Angela’s symptoms exacerbated resulting in her being re-referred to neuro-surgery in the NHS. Her symptoms have worsened and she is now in constant pain and has gone through all conventional routes to try and help unsuccessfully.

Angela lives every day with numbness and weakness from the waist down which has impact on her ability to walk resulting in isolation. Her body is breaking down with muscle spasms from the fused area in her Lumbar region from her previous surgery. There is compression, pinching on her nerves and narrowing of the spinal canal which is excruciating with nothing taking the pain away. Every movement is so painful but despite this Angela refuses to give up. There are days where Angela’s mood has been affected and she cries daily with the pain and not being able to do every day normal tasks. Angela has lived with her disability since 2004 and now at 48 years old is now confined to the house and as she lives alone is now feeling the pressures of isolation and loneliness. She has great tenacity and is strong willed but there are days where her illness has broken her and she has had some dark thoughts of not wanting to be here. Every day she fights both physically and mentally to live with her disability and pain.

Angela has tried every route to try and get proper treatment and every door that she has tried to open has been closed, increasing her feelings of hopelessness and frustration that no-one in the medical profession will help. Unfortunately the NHS is unwilling to offer any surgical options stating she has to just live with her symptoms, despite surgical options being available in other countries.

Angela is looking to go to abroad for urgent surgery to try and help her improve her quality of life.
This surgery would help take the pressure off her spinal column which could improve her level of pain and hopefully mobility. Along side her medical issues comes the financial burdens, donations are for spinal surgery, rehabilition and future care needs throughout her recovery.

So beautiful friends, family and acquaintances, with your help let's make a difference for my courageous cousin and give her a chance of being pain free and get her quality of life back. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for reading and please share far and wide to help spread the word.

A message from my friend Glenda Souter

Will Auntie Angie ever walk again my 5 year old asks me? I hope so I say.

Hi All, my friend Angela is the most loyal amazing friend and auntie to my 5 year old Tyra.
14 years ago in Spain, I met Angela, a bright, balshy, strong outgoing beautifull 'Glasgow Girl'. Full of life, hopes and dreams.

I have always believed the NHS are here to help but have been disgusted how someone so fragile has been handled to the point of them being suicidal. I've watched them take her pride, her dignity, her fighting spirit, I've watched them tell her there is no hope for her, that all she has too look forward to is a life of pain & misery.

Like Ann I have also seen Angela deteriorate signiciantly over the last couple of years, her walking now is minimal and my worry is when will she finally cease to walk at all. What would you do to have your best best friend back? I'm asking you please' friends old and new help our friend live life again and bring back the Angela we all love & adore.
