Andrew Performs at Carnegie Hall

My name is Andrew Rumsey and I am a musician.  I've always seen my job as something very simple - to share music with as many people as possible!  To make people laugh, to make people cry and sometimes even make people see the world in a different light is something that music has the power to do.  Music unites people in a way that nothing else can.  Leonard Bernstein once wrote:

"This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before."

This year I embark on a mission: to promote new Australian music overseas and to gain international performance experience and knowledge to help future generations of musicians in Australia.

My first destination will be the United States of America, where I will perform at the famed Carnegie Hall in New York City as part of the 2017 Golden Key Music Festival.  At this Festival I will be giving the international premiere of Le Tourbillon by Australian composer and pianist, Michael Dooley.  After this I will then travel to participate in the Miami Music Festival and then the Atlantic Music Festival.  All of these Festivals are extremely prestigious and I am very humbled at being invited to participate.

Obviously international travel comes at considerable expense, and although I am fully prepared to finance this, additional support will make possible even more opportunities whilst overseas.  I hope to organise additional piano lessons and concerts to promote Australian music (including one at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC).

At this point the travel, tuition, accommodation, application and registration expenses have totalled over $10,000.  Although this is a large sum to invest in what could be considered a 'US Tour', I am extremely passionate about music and want to promote the Australian music voice on the world stage.  Any funds raised will go towards the above expenses as well as a percentage to go to Australian composer Michael Dooley, who recently composed his Piano Concerto No.1 for me!

From the 1st of June I will be based in the United States for approximately 6 months and then hope to travel to Canada to study at the Banff Centre.  On my eventual return to Australia, I aim to organise a concert and masterclass series to share the fruits of this invaluable adventure.

Additional support to share Australian music with as many people as possible would not only be greatly appreciated by me personally, but it will have long-serving benefits to many students and audience members for years to come.

On what will most likely be a life-defining adventure for me, I hope to keep in touch with as many people as possible to share my triumphs and defeats with.  People are the sum of their experiences, and one must share their experiences with people...that's how the world works!
