Psychiatric Service Dog for Aidan

Donation protected
Dearest friends,

I know you are busy, so I will start with the punchline:  I have applied for and been accepted to receive a service dog for Aidan.  I just need your help paying for the dog’s initial care and training.

My son, Aidan, was born with Holoprosencephaly (HPE) and sever cleft lip, nose, and pallet.  Shortly after birth, he was diagnosed with diabetes insipidus. With the help from very skilled surgeons, he is as cute at can be, and his form of diabetes is controlled with injections.   However, Aidan will forever be challenged with neurological and intellectual disabilities.     He struggles in school, has difficulty staying focused and on task, becomes hyper-anxious (especially around people), and has trouble socializing with peers.

We are partnering with Dog Wish, Inc.  Dog Wish was founded to help those with neurological disabilities and disorders.  These dogs are specially selected and custom trained according to each individual’s needs, and are not produced generically like other organizations.  It has been found that each person has specific needs that are unique and special and these needs are addressed with a quality of dog trained to fit those specifics.

After talking with the trainer Bob Taylor at Dog Wish, we learned that they have breaded Shepard/Poodle (Shepardoodle) that excel as Psychiatric Service Dogs.  This certified service dog will stay focused on Aidan 100% of the time, no matter what.  The dog will act as a shield from stress and anxieties, and protect Aidan from environment and others that can harm him mentally, emotionally, and physically.  The selected dog has the incredible ability to naturally respond without commands by Aidan according to the scents, energies, and the environment.

As much as we would love to get this process started right away, financially this seems out of our reach.  These service dogs cost anywhere from $20,000 to $25,000.  It is hard for our family to ask for help, but we desperately are searching for a way to help Aidan.  Any donation would help us to hit our goal of $15,000.  This donation can change Aidan’s life for the better.

I hope that you will see what an incredible opportunity this is and feel called to partner with Aidan on this journey.  Here is the deal:  Dog Wish cannot even begin the specialized training to match Aidan until we have met at least $5,000 of my fundraising goal.  Thus, if you are willing to contribute, I humbly ask that you do so as soon as you can.  Training his dog will take an estimated 3-6 months, so the sooner we raise the needed funds, the more likely Aidan will receive the benefits a Psychiatric Service Dog can provide.

Thank you in advance for your love and support, be it social or financial.  You can help by sharing this campaign with others, even if you are unable to make a gift at this time!  We simply cannot express how much your presence in our lives and continued encouragement means to us.

From Aidan and the rest of my family, Thank YOU!
