Aftons DC fellowship trip

Hello Friends, Family, Liaisons, co-conspirators, loving enemies and fellow workers!
I have had the distinguished honor of being a fellow in the 2016 IDF Institute for a Democratic Future Cohort. This has allowed me to take my passion and drive for equity, workers rights and food justice to a whole new level. IDF has enabled me to take the ideas and concerns we have all discussed over beers, on smoke breaks, cooking together, watching each others children, waiting in the DSHS office, at the shop, in class as well as out on the street and turn those conversations into action with the skills I am gaining. I aspire to take this momentum even further in coming years to create real change through advocacy, education and action.
I have had the great fortune of receiving a scholarship to cover the majority of costs of this program. However we have a trip to DC, which is crucial in order for me to round out my knowledge and further hone my skills to become a successful advocate. This trip is supplemental and I cannot cover the cost without help from my community. I know we all come from different economic positions and even a buck would be helpful.
The money will be used to;
-Cover the cost of airfare
-Hotel share for extended classes
-Wages lost from taking time off work (Service work is hand to mouth regardless of ones position on the ladder)
-Additional childcare costs due to my absence that family cannot pitch in for due to scheduling. This is one of the biggest hurdles
-Transportation (cab, train, bus)
-Food whilst running around DC
-Appropriate business attire, don't know that I can pass off my one suit for an entire week on the hill, perhaps. Thinking minimal here. (I own predominately kitchen clogs and old slips as some of you know)
-Incidentals (museum entrance fees, new journal because I forgot mine, my heels just broke oh shit...)
I hope to raise my goal by the first of May and make you all proud of what I achieve! This program has opened a door to opportunity I never thought possible for someone from my background. With every step I take towards deepening my knowledge and expanding my community I extend my reach to advocate for all those basic components of equality, humanity and justice we have long discussed. I would love to tell any and all of you more about what I'm doing, my door is open! Thank you!
