As a college graduate, I understand the financial pressures of staying in school. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to attend ASU before the tuition & fee hikes, the economic downturn and cuts in financial aid.
Fast forward some years, my Brother now in his junior year at ASU is faced with a financial crisis: Pay off a $3500 balance or sit out a semester. With the constant rise in tuition, but not a rise in income, its hard to balance family, expenses and tuition. With one parent working and the other parent in school as well, $3500 feels like a million. After exhausting all options, as a family, we're compelled to seek help.
If you know BJ, you know he has overcome a lot in his years in school. He's established close-knit relationships with several on-campus resources to assist him academically and enjoys being active on campus in the Theatre Guild. He's already sat out a semester because of financial burdens and I don't want that to happen again. My parents, bless their hearts, are doing all they can, but every little bit helps.
I'm asking everyone to take pride in knowing we're sending a young man off to college. With so many young males either in jail or in the streets, its refreshing to know that we are a family proud of our relationship with Higher Education and Alabama State University.
