I'm Abigail Bevan and I'm senior at Metropolitan Arts Institute in Phoenix, Arizona.
I have this big dream to one day work in theatre in NYC and live in a tiny apartment with a cat. But, this isn't about raising money for a plane ticket or anything like that. This is about living.
Right now, I live in a studio apartment with just my mother. As she doesn't have a high paying job, we are barely scraping by in order to survive. It's obvious I don't have the money most kids do, but I try to make the most it. I've worked really hard all my life in school to maintain a 4.0 GPA and to hopefully go to a good college where I can pursue theatrical design.
There's a much bigger problem than that though. Shortly after I was born, immediately something went wrong. I can't discuss the specifics of the situation, but there's a major problem with my birth certificate that's preventing me from basically being a "legal" human being. I can't apply for a job, get a drivers license, or even go to college. After high school my options are severely limited. I have no way to get any sort of income on my own.
The purpose of this campaign is to help me fund for a lawyer in order to get this issue resolved. However, if we go over the goal, the extra money would go toward legal fees, it would help me graduate, and I could even start a fund for college. That way, my dreams won't seem so far away.
The reason I have to be so vague in this situation is because I don't want anyone close to me to suffer any sort of reprecussions. I need help, desperately. I'm currently fighting to have the basic rights of any other person. I, at the very least, want the chance to make my dreams come true.
