Thursday August 22nd 2013 was the day life changed for Abraham Lukens. Abe and some friends went out to play volleyball. Abe had played a couple rotations when the ball was hit into the lake next to the court. Seeing that the water looked deep, Abe dove in to get the ball.......He dove into water that was possibly less than three feet deep. He is now completely paralyzed from the shoulders down.
Being 22 and working in a restaurant, Abe had no health insurance or savings. His mother and sister have given up everything to ensure he does not go back into a nursing home and gets the necessary therapy he needs for a chance to possibly regain some body movement.
With Abe being one of the many that the government has denied help, his mother and sister cannot pay for the 24 hour care he needs and have had to take it upon themselves to take care of him.
Abe desperately needs financial help through this time to be able to go to physical rehabilitation therapy. With the new healthcare laws, Abe has been kicked off his medicaid insurance he was granted for four months. He once again has no insurance and no money to pay for any kind of rehab or necessary doctor appointments. The only insurance plan that would fit his needs is $5,882.
