My name is Tera Lowe. Unfortunately, I can't count on my hands me toes all of my friends and family from the Rockford area who are no longer with us because of addiction, overdose, or violence. It's a sad thing to say, but it's a reality for not only me, but for many people in the Rock River Valley.
Among many any friends whom I miss dearly, my younger brother died last fall from an overdose. His birthday was July 24th. On his birthday, I decided that I want to do something about it... I want to make a difference, that I'm sick of all my friends and family dying way too soon from addiction, overdose, and violence. I decided that Im done of seeing shooting here or overdose there on Rockford scanner or WIFR. That if nobody stands up and try's to make a difference, it's going to continue to happen. Well I want to do something about it, and it's time we stand together as a community and raise the bar for what we will accept as our hometown. That instead of talking about how bad Rockford is, we do something about it. I would like to raise awareness in loving memory of all of the loved ones we have lost, and WE are going to light up the night sky with love... For everyone who is no longer with us.
Light the Night with Love Is a child friendly event to raise awareness against addiction, overdose, and violence in the community.
An Eco friendly LED Balloon release in loving memory of all of the friends and family members that we have lost to addiction, overdose, or violence in our community. We will be releasing the LED Balloons and lighting up the sky to raise awareness of exactly how many people we loose to these terrible circumstances. That even if you aren't at the event, it will be noticed from afar. And if not from afar, maybe you will read my story that was once attached to my balloon, about all of my friends and brother, and contact me through our Facebook group and keep the awareness going.
We're asking $3 donation per balloon, unless we get enough sponsorship to not charge at all.
If you do want to pre donate your balloon donation of $3 a balloon, please include how many balloons you want total in your donation note. This will give us an estimate on how many balloons to order. Your donation is greatly appreciated with or without wants for a balloon(s).
*Pens and paper will be provided to write your loved ones we have lost a note, put their story to spread awareness, or simply notate in loving memory of .... And watch it light up the night with love in loving memory of all of the friends and family members that we have lost.
The idea is to also begin a group on Facebook and include the group URL on the note that flys off into the sky with the balloon. Whomever finds the note, can recontact via the Facebook group URL and we can make this a continuous awareness event.

All donations are greatly appreciated, as well as pre order balloon donations.
We do have to cover the cost of helium, balloons, shipping, and other misc items such as a memory board wall, so that we can write everyone's name that we have lost on it as a tribute to them. Those type of things are what we are raising money for, as well as taking pre event balloon order donations to get an idea of a better head count.
