Selfishly Fundraising
15 yrs ago I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I am still reasonably independent & on a good day I say MS doesn't bother me that much. But that is not exactly true. I walk with difficulty & at this stage I can not climb stairs. Pain, fatigue, spasms, loss of co-ordination, loss of balance, and other symptoms, are all part of my daily life. As I am now classified as Secondary Progressive MS there is little that the medical establishment can offer me in Australia. So after much research I have decided to travel overseas for stem cell therapy. The place I have chosen is located in Bangkok & will provide me with between 6 & 8 stem cell infusions, combined with multiple supportive therapies including physiotherapy, hyperbarric chamber sessions, acupuncture & a strict & supportive diet. I will be in the clinic for approximately 30 days, recieving treatment 6 days a week. The cost will come to around $USD33,000. With wonderful support from close friend I am able to give this one off opportunity a try. I will be taking unpaid leave from my part-time job to see if I can regain some of what has been lost to me. Worst case scenario is I will stay the same - at best, who knows? I am hoping that the treatment will help halt the progress of MS for a few years, & then I hope that something better will be available. And so I have named my call for fund raising Selfishly Fundraising, as it seems to be a very self centred exercise. But my hope is, that all going well, I will be able to help others to do the same; to achieve a reprieve from an inevitable, slow, insidious decline, that is the promise given by MS.
