My name is Lucy Taylor and I am raising money for my husband, Darren Taylor.
After 4 years together we had our dream wedding in May 2017. We were so excited about starting our lives together as husband and wife and couldn’t wait to see what the future held.
This excitement was to be cut short. In September 2017, just 4 months after we married, Darren began to experience heavy night sweats and a pain in his hip. After numerous tests, in November 2017, we were given the devastating diagnosis that he had stage 4 MPNST, a rare type of incurable cancer.
Darren endured 1 cycle of chemotherapy but this was cut short after he fractured his neck. It turns out the fracture was due to more cancer. Cancer that we were unaware of.
So where are we now?
Darren was admitted to hospital on the 16th January and has remained here since. Just a week later, his humerus also fractured. He is now in a neck collar and arm brace and awaiting a bed at Prospect Hospice, after being given a prognosis of just months to live.
Darren is 36,
The life and soul of any party and the most generous person you could meet.
I cannot imagine life without him and we will not give up without a fight. But we can’t fight this without help.
Our consultants will not give the ok to operate on his neck or humerus and we’ve been told he needs to be mobile for more treatment. So, catch 22......He can only be more mobile if they operate on his neck.
We are now exploring the options of costly treatment abroad. We know that time isn’t on our side so we need to move fast and have funding in place so that if we’re offered alternative treatment, we can move quickly.
We’re not going into this blindly. We know that there may not be many options left and, if there aren’t, then any donations will be used to improve Darren’s qualify of life. We will also donate a percentage to prospect hospice who have offered us a lifeline, when so many otherwise were quick to just give up.
It’s an unbearable position to face but we cant give up without a fight.
