Lisa has long been an active member of the Lexington community. She has been a member of the Lexington Philharmonic as a cellist for 11 yrs as well as Orchestra Kentucky Bowling Green.

Living downtown she and her husband, Jon Schaeffer, were very active walking everywhere and taking in everything that downtown Lexington has to offer. They were also avid hikers going to the Red River Gorge several times a year to take in the beauty of Kentucky. A favorite activity was daily walking their dogs, Jackson and Penelope, and then there was biking. They belonged to the bike club through 6th Street Brewery called Pedals and Pints and enjoyed biking the Legacy trail just about every weekend.

On November 6, 2013, Lisa was biking on Winchester Rd near the Jif plant and was run over by a semi tanker truck and trapped under his wheels for 25 min before the paramedics could release her. With this horrific trauma injury she was rushed to UK Medical Center and over the next 70 days in the hospital endured 10 surgeries in an attempt to save the leg. Technically this was done but there was so very much nerve damage that hopes to live a "normal" life would forever be lost. Lisa could barely walk a block now. So after several months of trying to regain her life back through the pain, which all the meds were not helping with, she made the hardest decision of her entire life. On May 21,2014 Lisa amputated her right leg below the knee (RBKA).

The moment she awakened from her surgery she no longer had that horrific pain. It was the right decision. There was finally hope that she could get the life she had back before the accident. A full life.

There is a long road back to recovery and much therapy to be done. She looks forward to being as active as she was prior to the accident and feels so very blessed that the accident didn't effect her ability to play music. All the advances in the world of prosthetics for amputees comes at a cost. This is where you come in.

Please help Lisa get back up and going by donating to Legs for Lisa.

As her father used to say (rest his soul), 'Every little bit helps!'
