Support Devin Murphy's Trip to Cuba!
Hello Gracious Donors!
As some of you may (or may not) know, I will be traveling this summer in Cuba! I am more than ecstatic to bark on this journey that will hopefully be full of self-discovery. I have always dreamt of going to Cuba, especially as I found that some of my ancestors descented from here. Never before did I believe I would have the opportunity to study abroad, but alas, the opportunity has come!
For those of you who are wondering: YES, it is legal to travel to Cuba for educational purposes. President Obama has lifted the sanctions on Cuba so as to allow U.S. citizens to travel there for solely educational purposes. I am not Beyoncé, nor am I Jay-Z, thus I need an educational permit to study in this beautiful country. Don't worry!
The program is entitled "Cuba: Narratives of Resistance", and for all those who understand my passion for social justice and public policy, you know this program is exactly up my alley! Cuban culture has always been something I have wanted to better connect to and what better way than going to the homeland itself.
But I will be graduating next year (hopefully!) and graduating with debt is understandbly not the best thing for anyone, especially with the African-American youth (18-25) unemployment rate staying steady at a staggering 50%! This program is very expensive, and I wholeheartedly cannot afford to be further in debt. YES. It's real.

My time at UCLA has been marked by one-in-a-lifetime opportunities. Cuba is undubitably one of those opportunities.
