Thai-Burma Alt Break Fundraiser

Donation protected
Twelve American University Students will be spending their Winter break on an alternative break trip to the Thai-Burma border (Chiang Mai and Mae Sot) from December 27th to January 9th, focused on promoting democracy and freedom through grassroots empowerment. Our group will meet with several NGOs on the ground, which work directly with the Burmese community. NGOs include: Curriculum Project, the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), the Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG), the Mae Tao Clinic, the Paluang Women\'s Organization (PWO), the Human Rights Education Institute of Burma (HREIB), the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB), Burma Partnership, Free Burma Rangers (FBR), the Ta\'ang Students and Youth Organization (TSYO), and the National Council of the Union of Burma (NCUB). We will also participate in a few service community service projects: one at a local high school for children of migrant workers, and another at a school inside of a refugee camp. To learn more about our trip, you can visit the following website: . We are also in the process of setting up a blog, and will make the link available very shortly. The blog is a great way to see what our group is doing prior, during, and after the trip. Indeed, our trip is not limited to our time at the Thai-Burma border; we also organize pre-trip activities and service, and we will continue to advocate for the cause of the Burmese people by engaging in post-trip activism.

$600 of the amount collected will go towards straight donations to the NGOs we will meet, in order to assist them fulfill their mission. The rest of the donations will  be used to finance our two service projects.

Supporters can also help by spreading the word about our trip and reading about the situation in Burma. Not enough people are aware of the struggles of the Burmese people! The most fundamental rights we tend to take for granted in democratic nations are denied to the people of Burma.

We thank each and everyone of you who is able to contribute to the cause of the Burmese people, it really makes a difference! We have met with the Burmese community here in Washington, DC and we can assure you that each contribution (whether it\'d be a word of encouragement, telling your friends about it, or a financial donation) really matters to the Burmese people. We hope you join us in our cause to free Burma!
