My name is Dijé Coxson. I am an aspiring Opera Singer and I will compete in the National NAACP ACT-SO Competition in Las Vegas beginning July 17, 2014. I won the local NAACP ACT-SO competition for Contemporary Vocals this year and last and also finished second in the Classical Vocal category.
The Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. ACT-SO includes 26 categories of competition in the sciences, humanities, business, and performing and visual arts.

Dijé, an aspiring opera singer is a rising senior at the Baltimore School for the Arts (BSA). She has trained with the Washington National Opera Summer Camp, the Nathan Carter School of Music at New Shiloh Baptist Church and the Lyric’s Summer Opera Camp.
Dijé won the seventh annual “O, Say Can You Sing?” competition. She competed against more than 50 other local vocalists to win the chance to sing the National Anthem at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Star-Spangled Spectacular Concert on Friday, July 4 at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md. She was also one of the 8 Finalists in this year's Star Spangled Sing Off. Two of the three winners are professional Opera Singers.
Last summer Dijé attended Opera Camp for the Washington National Opera in Washington D.C. with a partial scholarship. 15 people were accepted from the 140 who auditioned. At the conclusion of Camp, she was a finalist in the Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition and won the award for the Best Sophomore.
She placed second in the Annual Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Talent Hunt at the Regional's in Buffalo, NY in May, 2013. She placed second in the Grady-Rayam Sacred Music Competition at Morgan State University this year.
