A Book Fund for Kids

This book fund is for Nayeli, Angel, Ashley, Brandon, Nestor, and Davina. It’s for Wendy, Jayly, Enrique, David, and Luis – and more than 70 other young students from Rhode Island’s most low-income urban communities.
All of them are in middle school and are members of The College Crusade of Rhode Island . All of them want to go to college someday. They know this means they need to become better readers. So they spend hours on Saturdays at a literacy program designed just for them.
The College Crusade Alumni Association created this book fund so we could give every one of these students their own new book to take home on the last day of class.
Their reading program started in October 2014 and finishes in May 2015. That’s a lot of Saturdays. It’s not a school day, but they get up early and ride a bus to get there.
Imagine all the TV shows and video games they are missing. Instead, they are reading, and building vocabulary, and making new friends, and getting excited talking about books and stories.
We need more than 80 books! Please join us to raise the funds to purchase enough books and give the gift of reading to these very dedicated young students.
