Yoga Para Las Madres

Yoga para las Madres is a community-based program offered by The Human Plant Project,  based in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

The Human Plant Project is a yoga and mindfulness program for children and adults living in under-served communities in New York City. The mission of The Human Plant Project is to nurture and support the mental, physical, and emotional development of each unique being through guided meditation and relaxation, flowing yoga postures, and a caring and safe environment.

The Human Plant Project is currently partnering with schools and community-based organizations throughout New York City, bringing the art of yoga and mindfulness to populations that might otherwise never be exposed to these transformative practices. A major goal of The Human Plant Project is to keep our programming open and accessible to all, regardless of language barriers and/or financial constraints. Our classes are structured to be inclusive and open, allowing everyone to experience the benefits of mindfulness and yoga.

Yoga para las Madres is a weekly yoga class taught in Spanish to immigrant mothers living in Bushwick. The classes are held at Still Waters in a Storm , a sanctuary for children in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Yoga para las Madres is for the mothers of the children who attend Still Waters in a Storm.  These mothers are all immigrants, mostly from Mexico and Ecuador. This is the first experience with yoga for most of the mothers and for many of them, it is the only time during their week that they get to enjoy an hour of self care and peace. These women are hard-working, caring, and loving human beings who deserve this opportunity.

We would like to continue to offer these classes, free of charge, to the mothers of Bushwick and we need your help! Please consider donating whatever you can to this simple yet important program. $2,500 will cover the costs of the classes for an entire year!

Yoga para las Madres classes are led by Ximena Milagros Savitch, originally from Lima, Peru, who is an advanced certified yoga teacher, activist and healer. Ximena’s teachings draw from her own life experiences and reflect her strong call to live in the service of others. They are inclusive and healing for students of all shapes and sizes, skin colors, nationalities, religions, abilities, genders, gender identities and socioeconomic statuses. She is trained to teach those who are healing from trauma, anxiety, depression, negative body image and eating disorders. She teaches throughout the world, particularly in Latin America where she is able to teach in Spanish, her native language.
