Help Yourself by Helping the Philippines

"I don't want to live in the kind of world where we don't look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I cant change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit." - Charles de Lint

Hello. My name is Stephane Tourigny, and as alot of you already know I participate in alot of fundraising events. The Philippines is very close to my heart and the recent devastation has forced me to ACT as quickly as I can. I have been working with Pastor Bern Cielo to put together a fund raising page. Every year everyone graciously digs into their pockets to give me and other loved ones gifts -- for birthdays and Christmas-- this year please use those funds for this cause. . . . . .

When I'm asked what my favorite hobby is, I reply: "Helping other people to succeed". I don't say this because I want individuals to think of me as an overly-nice guy, however for me, helping other people to succeed is a source of absolute delight and enjoyment. This is definitely not a unique quality; it seems to be in our nature to want to help others. We all may not have the wisdom needed to help other people succeed, but roughly everybody has enough wisdom in some area to help somebody with something.

Now my goal is to help the Philippines, Countries all over are sending funds to help! But this is not enough, they have to restore the economic flow in these areas, by establishing economic infrastructures, that can help the people earn means to support themselves.

Our focus is not just Leyte and Samar, for the UN is already there. There are municipalities outside of Leyte that were also hard hit! But only a little help was concentrated on these areas. For example, Bugo Cebu, the Province of Aklan, etc. etc.

The Government's response to the situation was slow, and people are dying of sicknesses, hunger, and worse--violence.

The UN are helping now, and nations around the world are involved. Thank God for this! Everyone is trying to help, but the catastrophe was just so enormous that to meet the needs of every person, town, and village affected is a big challenge!

We can not feed more than a million people for months. . . . We need to also focus on the health needs, and welfare of the children. The first thing we need to do is restore security. We cannot restore the economy if looting, rioting, and people killing people for food goes on!

A group from North Carolina, and a Church from L.A. suggested the same thing to my colleague Pastor Bern. Pastor Bern also is praying about it and trying to make a list of the needs, and the expenses entailed to organize a relief mission there.

Feeding outreach, ( feeding indigent malnourished children specially those in calamity affected areas) Is what the funds are for. It will be distributed to 2 outreach program in the Philippines. One is ''Siloam Feeding Program'' and the other is ''Jeepney Story Mobile''

Please help us get the relief to the people who need it.
