Wheelin Across America

Hello everybody! 

My name is Stephen Wheeler, I'm 22 years old and I have taken it upon myself to embark on a journey across America. I will traveling from New York City to San Deigo, California strictly on a bicycle by myself. Wheeler is wheelin his way across America. Coast to Coast. 

I will be leaving at the end of September and plan to be in California by the end of December.  I am taking a more mid/ southern route to avoid as much of the cold as I can. 

There are many reasons why I want to do this and they don't really stem from a passion for biking. Let me explain. I am a spiritual person by nature and truly believe that this pilgrimage will teach me things about myself that I can not learn anywhere else. Why not take a car? Well that's too easy. On a bicycle I will be tested with many challenges along the way both mentally and physically. As crazy as I sound, that's exactly what I want. I will be pitching a tent at campsites and state/ national parks every night. Through battling the elements, I will be bonding with Mother Earth. I believe a person's character can only grow in the face of hardships. It's all about how a person handles it. I want to experience all the different cultures and beautiful scenery along the way. I want to get to know my own backyard. I want an experience that I will always carry with me and stories to pass on for generations. I want to unplug from the modern world and connect to the simplicity life has to offer.  I want to grow and expand in ways unimaginable. 

This is a personal cause but by the end of it I will give all that I learn back to the world.  I will be able to help others using the gifts I seek. I have always been a self sufficent guy so to stick my hand out and ask for money is a step outside my comfort zone. This trip does not come cheap. Between my bike, my gear, camping equipment and food to keep me going the cost just keeps piling up.  With the help of my family, friends and even strangers I plan on raising enough money to carry me all the way. Your donation will not go unnoticed. It will be greatly appreciated. It will help me eat and even help pay for a motel  for a night once in awhile.
