Limbs For Verna Rejuvenate Her Life

Donation protected
Verna was a healthy happy person who came to Canada in 2001, started working in Calgary as a nanny.  Verna, like others, participated in HopEthiopia charities and used holiday  time to volunteer in Sierra Leone and Thailand.  She loved life.
After Jan 2017, everything changed.  Verna was diagnosed with a 10cm endometriosis and sent home with medicine on several occasions. Her cyst burst without detection from her gynaecologist - the only advice provided being "if the pain persists, go to emergency".   Verna went to The Peter Lougheed hospital at 6:00 am on March 18,2017 and was moved to the Foothills hospital at 5:00pm.   At 9:00 pm, she underwent a total hysterectomy proceedure while in septic shock.  What followed was that quadruple amputation!  Verna remained in the hospital for 263 days due to multiple complications.  She now lives in the Carewest  centre EQual unit,  a facility for people not capable of living on their own - mostly as a result of physical, medical and psychological considerations.   Verna was a hard working girl and does not suffer from mental illness - in spite of what she has gone through .  The war amps program has provided her a prosthetic arm which allows her to feed herself.  While the provincial government provides funding for a portion of her care (long term rehabilitation and physiotherapy), the remainder is Verna's responsibility.  As you can imagine, Verna's ongoing needs are great. Wheelchair access to a home she can reside in with her mother, who has come to Canada on a 4 year visa, leads the list.  Costs to provide ramps, larger door ways, cupboards and shelves at her whellchair level and an accessible shower are all examples of the changes required.  Verna's savings have essentially run out.   Contirbutions in cash or renovation assistance are urgently needed.
Verna has a blog that provides more details of her struggles and strengths and details her life before and after this recent catastrophic event.
Please follow Verna and help her to achieve her goals - which includes the goal to one day run again. While this goal was unattainable 25 years ago, Verna is now looking forward to this reality. http://lovekindnesshope.wordpress.com/about/
