Vanessa's Team

Vanessa is the middle child in a family with three girls.  Her older and younger sisters are healthy young girls.  Vanessa is like her sisters and so many other kids in a lot of ways.  She absolutely loves being around other people.  She enjoys being the center of attention and has a great sense of humor.  One thing that is different about Vanessa is her struggle with Sickle Cell Disease.  Since having her first Sickle Cell crisis at age 7, Vanessa (now 10) has battled intense pain in her body.
      One treatment for Sickle Cell Disease is a bone marrow transplant.  After much consultation with doctors, Vanessa's family knows that their best chance of saving this beautiful girl's life is to go ahead with the transplant (even though it is a tough process).  Although Vanessa's Sickle Cell Disease is tough to deal with, it would be even more difficult if there were no bone marrow donor for her to have a transplant.  Fortunately, Vanessa's 2 year old sister was a match and will serve as the donor!
