Help me finish my training.

Hey guys! My name is Tyler Simms (pictured, as Smee, in the middle from last semesters production of Peter Pan at Wright State University.)  I'm twenty-two years old and I've been going to school for four, going on five years, for Musical Theatre.  I've been doing theatre since the first grade - I've never been more passionate for something.

I guess a little back story on me wouldn't hurt: I'm the eldest of three boys (my two younger brothers are both in college as of this Fall) raised by a single mother.  Growing up wasn't hard but it also wasn't a walk in the park.  When I was away at college, for my first year, my mother went through a divorce and lost everything: her car, home and life-savings.  This, amongst other factors, forced me to transfer to a cheaper college and start working to put myself through.  When I transferred, however, there was an outstanding balance at my previous university so I was unable to receive my official transcript.  (If you are unaware, in order to be a transfer student, you need a transcript from all previous universities attended).  My mother and I went on a payment plan to get that resolved and in the meantime the administration / faculty at my current college were being overly generous and allowed me to attend for three years without my official transcript.  Going into the Fall semester of my senior year I was told by the administration that there was no way they could help me any longer – they had “exhausted their resources.”  Until I received my official transcript I could not return to school.

Thinking there was not much more that we needed to pay, I went to see if I had enough saved.  I found out that my mom had missed a few payments due to unexpected medical conditions within the family. Payment for treatment and medicine became priority.  Due to unfortunate timing, the original payment plan contract was broken. Because of these missed payments the total amount due to my first university has exceeded $11,000.

Family is the most important thing in my life and will come before anything. The health of my family has to come before my education. That being said, when you’re in a BFA program for something like Musical Theatre (my current program) you have very small class sizes, usually no more than 12 students, and you take every class with them Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm all four years of college.  They become family.  We have worked together and cheered on each other’s success. Nothing has meant more to me than the community I have found within this program. Each year of this program builds off of the last, and the ensemble of the class grows stronger each semester. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the program, it is not easy to take time off and pick up where you left off.  I’m simply asking for help reaching my goal of $11,822 so my mom can focus on helping my youngest brother and herself get well again and I can finish the educational journey I began four years ago.

A little incentive for you: every $500 raised I will upload a video of me performing to the page!

In order to collect the money from gofundme the total amount does not need to be met.  Any little bit helps.
