Greetings!
I am Tyleah Hawkins and I am a graduating senior, broadcast journalism major, theater arts minor at Howard University. I was offered the unique opportunity to study at the British American Drama Academy Midsummer at the world-renowned University of Oxford in association with the Yale School of Drama.
Less than 300 students from around the United States were accepted to this program this year. I am extremely grateful to have been offered this opportunity. I was even more humbled to learn that I am one of the few women, and women of color who have been accepted and I am the only non-acting major to be accepted.
Theater is my passion however, I was unable to major in theatre arts because I missed my audition at Howard University due to a death in my family. I would have switched my major but I would have had to stay an extra year at the university, an expense I could not afford. However, I never gave up on my dream. I auditioned for this hoping to make my dreams come true but I really need your help.
The total cost of the program is 6,350 dollars (not including flight, weekend activities and other expenses). As of now flights are around 1,500 dollars to London. I was offered a 600-dollar scholarship however due to the high cost of the program this does not scratch the surface of the total cost.
This program is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I do not want to allow to slip through my fingers due to not being able to afford it. I would greatly appreciate it if you could donate to my GoFundMe account to help me reach my goal of studying at the University of Oxford. Any little bit of money helps the total cost of the program. I got through college with the support of family, friends and my community. I hope you all will also support me as I transition to the next stage in my life.
