The self-discipline, determination and diligence needed to perform and compete at such high levels are traits that carry over into intellectual pursuits that lead to a lifetime of effective study and work habits. The end results are young adults that have a positive impact on their communities. But we cannot do it without your support!
The true measure of our success as the band boosters and music directors is to allow these fine young musician students the opportunity to continue to grow musically and allow the Soul Tigers Band program to mature and develop to become a great tradition for future generations in our community.
The money raised will support the growth of the band programs as we need to purchase additionainstruments, music, repair/replacement and upkeep of instruments, competition fees, transportation, uniform replacement and building permit.
The Soul Tigers Marching Band fills a critical need in the community of East New York. In an area where 36 percent of high schoolers graduate with a Regents Degree, the Soul Tigers boasts an impressive one-hundred percent high school graduation rate. The band has marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, has appeared in Tommy Hilfiger commercials, and played the opening ceremony of the US Open.
The program, which provides after-school childcare to hundreds of families six days a week, serves as a repository of musical enrichment, educational attainment, and hope. “Our students have the right to a top notch education,” states Hughes, “the band gives our students a way out poverty and changes the statistics around in their favor.”
