Typhoon Haiyan Relief - Shelter 10 women

Donation protected

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." ~Confucius

This is Micai and her niece having fun...No, not really. They just lost their home to the sea. The victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan make jokes, put on a brave face, count their blessings and laugh at their problems. This is a typical reaction of Filipinos who undergo major challenge in their lives. This is how they survive...this is how they overcome the most trying situation in their lives.

This is what is left of Micai's house. It was destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan, the most powerful storm to make landfall ever recorded, struck the central Philippines on November 8, killing at least 6,155 people, displacing 4.4 million Filipinos and destroying an estimated 12 billion pesos ($274 million) worth of crops and infrastructure.

Meet some of the women

Micai is married to a carpenter. They have 3 children, all girls aged between 1 1/2 - 10 years old. She washes clothes for a living.

Naty, married with 2 children is a street sweeper who works for the local government.

Girlie gathers wild plants from the mountains, repots them and sell them in town. She helps her husband, a tricycle driver provide for 4 children, aged between 2 - 10 yrs old.

Judith is a vendor selling snacks in Coron town, married with 5 children, aged 5-12 years old.

Nay is a widow. she supports herself and helps her children by selling her fruits and vegetables from her garden.

What do they have in common? They are strong women. They work hard. They have dreams for a better future. These are some of the 10 women and their families who lost their homes and their source of livelihood to Typhoon Haiyan. They are poor. These families have a hard time to make ends meet...now, they also have an added pressure of rebuilding a house.

They are like the waiting shed in San Jose, which was built by mistake on the wrong side of the road so no bus or jeepney stops here. These women are waiting for nothing. Other victims had already been awarded a token amount of money to start rebuilding. They did not get anything aside from a few kilos of rice and some sardines. They know that they cannot wait for help to build their homes...although most times they wish that help will come. They are some of the forgotten victims of the typhoon.

You can be the help that they wish would come. The typhoon victims need a lot of things but mostly they need shelter to have a semblance of normalcy and a sense of security in their lives.

They need to build their houses a.s.a.p.

You can make them cry tears of joy and relief when you help finance the rebuilding or repair of their house.

You can buy them some materials with your donation of $20 or a whole new roof for $ 300.

Your donation can buy the ff.:
$ 2.00 = 1 kilo of nails
$ 2.50 = 1 piece of 2x2x12 lumber
$ 10.00 = 1 piece of galvanized roofing sheet
$ 8.00 = 1 bag of cement
$ 10.00 = 1 day salary of carpenter
$ 1,200 = 1 house ( 4 meters x 5 meters)
$1,500 = chainsaw ( clearing debris from the yard or farm)

We want to raise $ 15,000 for 10 homes for ten women and their families.

We invite you to partake in the global community and make such a difference in the lives of these women.

Your donation buys the supplies needed to give them shelter, to offer security and give a semblance of normalcy to their lives

Help them not be forgotten, help them live again.

Thank you.
