Serra High School Golden Regiment Marching Band
We are a San Diego public high school marching band performing and competing in San Diego.
In California, funding is not available for many extracurricular activities for public schools, and the marching band is one of the budgets that does not exist. As a result, our Band Boosters are seeking help to make sure that our young men and women are able to continue performing, competing, and learning the music and skills that they love.
A large population of Serra High School students are the children of active duty military members. Another significant portion are choiced in from other neighborhoods throughout the San Diego area. Many of these students are from low income households who cannot afford to donate to help the band. For many of these students, the experiences they have in band and color guard are the key to their academic success, giving them the support, inspiration, motivation and peer advocates that they need to keep them focused on their school work.
This year, we estimate that it will cost us approximately $30,000 just to stay at the level we currently are. With this fundraiser, we are hoping to raise the funds necessary to cover the costs of charting our marching band show, paying for our percussion and color guard writing, as well as various instrument and equipment expenses. To keep a band on the field, we have continuous maintenance that has to be performed to keep the instruments, uniforms, equipment and other accessories in performance shape.
