Saving Zena

Donation protected
This is Zena.

Zena's family lost their home and entrusted Zena's care to family members. Zena was caught chewing on a shoe by the owner's nephew and was then kicked down a flight of stairs. Her left hind leg suffered a horrific break.  Zena was taken to the vet where it was determined that surgery, and possible amputation, was the only option.  The owner could not afford this surgery so she was surrendered to Philly ACCT.   Even though she was in pain, Zena never growled or snapped.   She wagged her tail and kissed the intake volunteers, completely oblivious to what was going to happen.  Completely oblivious that her life was only days from ending.

A pitbull in a kill shelter.  Worse than that....an injured pitbull.  Because of her breed and her medical issues, she was "rescue pull only".  Her chances for survival were next to zero.  Sadly, her story is not unlike the millions of others who are killed daily in shelters all over the country.  They die alone, abandoned, in pain.

But her story IS different.

Her posting on Philly ACCT's Facebook page caught the attention of hundreds and hundreds of people.  Crosspostings into the thousands - begging for a foster, for a rescue - for *somone* to please step up, pledges being made toward the group that would pull her, prayers being said for a miracle...

But a miracle is just what happened.

Rescue Dogs Rock Animal Rescue secured foster and pulled her.  Last night, at 8pm, Zena left that shelter and into the loving home of her foster family.

She is not going to be a statistic.  She is not going to be one of the nameless unloved who die alone and in pain.  This dog is going to LIVE.

But we need your help.  Zena's veterinary bills will be well into the thousands to cover the cost of her orthopedic surgery and post op rehabilitation.  This is in addition to the routine care that still needs to be done -vaccinations, spaying, microchipping etc.  We cannot do this without you.  Any amount will help - $5, $10 - anything.  It all adds up.

An injured pitbull on Death Row in an inner city shelter.....and she was saved.  Yep, miracles *do* happen <3
