I am currently raising funds for what will the adventure of a lifetime. I am in talks with the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) to spend 6 weeks of my life to come work, live and play in Cape Town, South Africa home to the jackass penguin, also known as the African penguin.
I have several experiences working with birds of all types including raptors, psittacines, and of course, penguins. These experiences are also varied, including education, rehabilitation, and training/show performance. In all of this, one things is for sure: Birds have my heart.
This project will allow me six weeks to learn via hands on training about these beautiful endangered birds, their rescue, rehabilitation, chick rearing, critical care. Not only does this help animals in great need, but it will help me develop skills and training to help launch a career in aviculture or bird rehabilitation.
African penguins in particular are at great risk due to guano harvesting, decline in food source, and oil spills.
I am tentatively scheduled for a mid-May 2016 departure that will allow me to finish my spring semester at school, but still get to South Africa in time for breeding season. I need a 50% deposit to lock in my date and rate! The $4000 represents the TOTAL I'll need for absolutely everything; Food, accomodations, program fees, passports, etc.
Please consider donating to help me help these animals. When I get sent to Africa, I'll do all of the heavy lifting for you! No amount is too small to help! If everyone on my friends list donated the cost of one cup of Starbucks coffee, I could cover the entire program! The remaining costs would all be personal for flights, passports, food, etc. If you have any questions, please contact me and I will answer the best I can!
