Sanderson Theatre Ensemble has been selected as one of only two schools to represent the entire State of North Carolina at the South Eastern Theatre Conference!!
Wow! That is cool! How were you selected? It started with 128 plays and only 2 were selected. Our play, 26 Pebbles was selected as the judges’ choice for Distinguished Play to represent North Carolina at SETC.
What is your show about? "26 Pebbles" by Eric Ulloa is documentary drama about the real townspeople of Newtown, CT surrounding the 2012 school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The major symbol of the play is that when a pebble is dropped in the water, it creates a ripple far bigger than the stone that created it. "26 Pebbles" is a play about those ripples. This play tackles the effects of the increase of school violence and opens up a beautiful and positive discussion on how we can solve the national crisis.
What is SETC and what will you do there? SETC is the highest level of high school theatre competition. The SETC organization is the strongest and broadest network of theatre practitioners in the USA. The SETC event is more than a competition, students audition for shows and college scholarships, attend workshops, and interview for jobs and internships.
SETC will be held in Knoxville, TN on February 27th through March 3rd. We will need to pay for registration for all the students, teachers and chaperones, hotel rooms for the festival. That estimated cost is over $10,000 and that is before we factor in transporting ourselves and our set to Tennessee and food costs for the weekend.
If you can help us out a little or a lot, we will be forever grateful. If you want to see us perform The Yellow Boat, come to our Encore Night performance at 7pm on Friday, February 8th.
When do you need the money? As soon as possible, we will need to reserve hotel rooms and begin registering for the festival before the early registration window is closed in December.
