Revolutionary Teen Bookclub
Donation protected
A group of St. Paul Public School librarians, along with a core group of passionate students, would like to start a book club, bringing together a diverse group of teens from across our district in a real-world setting. We are seeking funding in an effort to remove the impediments--namely, the cost of books and transportation--that would prevent many of our students from participating in such an experience.
The meetings will be held at Addendum, a local young adult bookstore with a history of working with teens . Addendum will also use its connections to help us bring in authors, providing students the unique opportunity to engage with authors in authentic conversation.
Student-led discussions will be facilitated by SPPS teachers and librarians and supplemented by author visits. We will create a blog for students to stay connected in between meetings.
Ultimately, we hope to increase enjoyment of reading, improve reading skills, encourage the responsible use of social media, and promote a culture of literacy across St. Paul Public Schools as book club members share their experiences with the broader student community and each other.
