Packing Shed for Local Produce

Donation protected
Sheila Bird Farms is located on a small plot of land just outside Laramie, WY, at 7200 ft. elev. We start all our veggies from seed in our greenhouse in town, then transplant them out at the farm. We buy mostly organic, and always non-GMO, seed.

In 2014, we signed a lease with the owner of Prairie Monarch Bison Ranch to farm here for 5 years, and constructed two large hoop houses, or high tunnels, on the farm to extend the growing season earlier in spring and later in fall. We provide produce to the Laramie community through the Laramie farmers markets and regular donations to Feeding Laramie Valley, as well as with a new CSA shares program, and have ventured to the Cheyenne market, too.

At Sheila Bird Farms we are committed to employing organic practices, such as crop rotation, cover crops, and the use of beneficial insects to control pests. We use absolutely NO chemical agents (pesticides/herbicides/fungicides). We are currently pursuing organic certification, though we don’t yet have the official seal.

Our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share program is a great way for us to afford seeds and equipment early in the year and to be able to distribute excess produce (every farmer’s wish). The CSA program enhances our ability to  provide our communities with the finest quality vegetables from a local source. We offer CSA shares: single, double, and family size, of produce, bison or a combination, in collaboration with Prairie Monarch Bison Ranch, so Laramie area residents can support local agriculture. This year we are partnering with Feeding Laramie Valley in a Share a Share program in which community members can purchase a share to share with or donate to someone who would not normally have access to good fresh local, organically grown produce.

We would like to build a packing shed so we can continue to provide the freshest local organically grown produce around. This facility would allow us to extend the growing season even further, with capacity to store root crops into the winter months, providing food security for our community at 7200 feet!
