Ryan Runs North Korea
Donation protected
In pursuit of pushing the limits of travel and of my body, I am running the Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon, informally known as the Pyongyang Marathon, in North Korea on April 11, 2015. I will be running alongside North Koreans through the streets of the capital city and will finish with a final lap in front of 50,000 North Koreans in Kim Il Sung Stadium. As this is just the second year the marathon is open to international amateurs, this offers a rare and unique glimpse into the isolated and enigmatic country.
Regardless of what we're told on the news and whatever political notions or objections we may have, increasingly strained relations with the West has meant less and less humanitarian aid getting into North Korea.
In light of this, I'm teaming up with Love North Korean Children for my marathon, a UK based non-profit which builds self-sustainable bakeries in and around North Korea and feeds 20,000 North Korea children everyday. Nearly a third of North Korean's are malnourished--- and I know that children don't get to choose the country they're born into, and believe all kids deserve the basic right to eat.
LNKC is non-political, and non-denominational. All of the flour is bought and shipped from China so any funds donated aren't supporting the regime.
A donation of $5 will sponsor a North Korean childs lunch for an entire month, and 100% of funds I raise for this marathon will go to LNKC.
I love you. Thank you.
