Hello everyone!
We (Casey and Isa) are embarking on a 10-month journey in Rwanda. While there, our mission is to build basketball courts and hold basketball clinics in an effort to raise visibility of basketball while teaching at-risk youth about the ideals of the importance of education, health and fitness, disease prevention, and gender equality. We have found that it is more practical to fill a shipping container - costing around $8,000 - with camp t-shirts, basketballs, air pumps, shoes (most Rwandan youth play basketball without shoes), and most importantly - nice, glass backboard, basketball hoop systems. We envision a "Court of Dreams" with nice glass backboards and a cleanly painted lines, because we feel if we build a nice place to play, the court will be a special place, and basketball will be taken seriously, resulting in raised visibility for our program, and an overall greater impact on the social and basketball landscape of Rwanda. If you are wondering why the donations go to our personal paypal account instead of to Shooting Touch directly, that is because the general Shooting Touch fund has donors for other projects, and we do not want to interfere with and mix up specific donations. We are tremendously excited for our departure date of October 1st and send our most sincere "thank you" to everyone who has helped us in this process. We promise to update you on the progress of the court!
Sincerely,
Casey Stockton and Isaura Guzman
