Rome Colts Practice Field Project

Tax deductible
Thank you for visiting our donation page. We are excited to share that we are developing a practice field, and we need your help. We hope you find our objective worthy of support and share this campaign with your family and friends.

As a thank you, we will also be sending out recognition items for different donation commitment levels. Please be sure to read the further details around that below. Thank you.

Our Story: Beginning late 2012, our team embarked on a four-phased process with plans to clear and develop a 4.5-acre practice field, expand and update parking, and include parking and modest field lighting. Our overall project budget is $162k. With help from some great partners, internal fundraising, and grants to date, we have reached 30% of this goal. This includes a very generous twenty-three-thousand dollar grant received in 2016 from The Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties; which allowed us to remove trees and stumps from the area. Our immediate next steps are to excavate, grade, topsoil, and seed the field.

Today, we continue to serve between 170–200 kids annually ages 5-13 comprising of six teams each, for both football and cheerleading. The program offers a great opportunity for kids by providing an outdoor activity with a team building and mentoring atmosphere that teaches commitment and builds upon core individual and interpersonal values assisting kids today and later in life.

We sincerely believe in the community we have within Rome. The youth programs available here are many, and outstanding in our region. This is due to the countless great people throughout the years who have started and who continued to grow the programs to what they are today. We are asking you to join us in continuing that legacy. We are asking for support from our community, the hundreds of coaches and volunteers throughout Rome, the thousands of Pop Warner alumni, and those who believe in this goal and in the value of youth sports overall. We truly need your help and believe you can make this dream come true.

About the Project: As previously mentioned, the project area is a 4.5 acre wooded area adjacent to our game field located at 901 Bell Rd. Our phased approach addresses each opportunity in order of priority and available funding. The field itself is our main priority, which will afford our entire organization the benefit of practicing at a single and structured location.

Our first major development step was in 2016 when we removed all of the trees and stumps. Our next and current steps are to excavate, grade, topsoil, and seed the field. This is the main portion we are looking for assistance with at this time. Once this phase is complete, the field will be ready for use. Our hope is to obtain funding and complete this phase in early 2017 so that we may be ready in time for August practice. From there, if funding surpasses current need, we will continue toward expanding the parking lot. The goal with the lot is to develop to 100 parking spaces with a structured one-way flow of traffic and include lighting. These are key essentials needed in providing a safe departure for the kids after our nightly, late summer practices. The challenge here being that our coaches are most often working parents who begin nightly practices around 5-5:30PM, while in late summer sundown edges closer and closer around 6PM. With this in mind, the ultimate achievement would then be to install modest field lighting to assist coaches on the practice field as well as install a walking path around the field for parents and families to enjoy.

Closing comments: We understand our project as both essential and ambitious. We believe in this cause. Upon completion, the Rome Colts will be sustainable and sufficient providing the kids of our community an increasingly well-organized program. In addition and in the future, our ambition goes beyond the completion of this project. We aspire to expand into the Challenger Division, a flag football and cheerleading division for kids with special needs. Completion of this project will also benefit the local area through the improved and expanding parking as well as benefit the adjacent sports organizations with the added field space in the area.

We hope you agree that upon completion of this project it will absolutely be a dream come true and a strong value for our community. For our organization, considering we practice 5-days per week, having a permanent and controlled practice field adjacent to our game field provides a place we can truly call home.

Sincerely, thank you very much for your support.

How you can help: Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. To express our appreciation for your support we have outlined some donation recognition levels. As each level progresses, the higher levels include the level prior as well. We hope that you find these fun and that you spread the word to others who would also like to participate.

Below are details on our Donation Recognition Program, how to opt out of recognition (creates added value in your donation), and how to submit an offline donation (some prefer to mail in which also avoids online fees).

Donation Recognition Program: We are grateful for all donations. To express appreciation for higher donation levels, we would like to show thanks through our recognition program. This is a manual process so we need your help. First, we need accurate mailing addresses. When you donate, please ensure your email address is accurate so that we can follow up to verify your mailing address, or feel free to email your mailing address to us using the button in the top right corner. To ensure we're on the same page with timing, some of the recognitions we hope to deliver in person saving on postage whle others we will need to mail out. To help in this manual process, mailing will not be immediate after your donation. Our goal will be to mail all within the same window, aiming for September.  This allows us time to potentially hand out directly to those local and at our organization's events. Should you have any questions or a change in address please email.

Opt out of recognition program: We understand some may prefer not to be included in the recognition program. If you would prefer to opt out of recognition, perhaps consider offline donation, or following your donation please email us using the email option in the top right corner just to let us know your preference. Otherwise, when we follow up to verify your mailing address, please let us know at that time of your choice to opt out. Thank you very much. We are grateful for your generous support.

Offline donation: Additionally, we understand some may not be comfortable donating online. Should you prefer offline donation, please use the mailing address provided below. This process does save on the fees associated with online donation. If you donate offline, please also specify if you wish to be included in the donation recognition program.
