Coach McCaulley is a beloved member of the Yuba-Sutter community. He teaches at River Valley High School in Yuba City, CA. Phil also serves as Athletic Director & Head Freshman Football Coach.
On December 23rd, Phil suffered a severe accident while swimming on vacation in Hawaii.
Your donation will help with:
- The McCaulley Family's insurance deductibles for 2016 and 2017
- Phil's air ambulance from Hawaii
- Family travel and living expenses
- Long term rehabilitation center expenses
- Any living accommodations Phil may need
- Future operations
Phil fractured his C-5 vertebrae, and as of that day, has had no feeling or mobility below his chest. He was airlifted to the hospital and put in ICU on Friday night, and had surgery on December 24th. The surgeons took out that vertebrae and put in a plate. Phil has been in ICU since the accident.
Each day he has progressed. His feeling is now a little below his naval, tingle in toes, and some feeling in thighs, knees and calves, but still no mobility. The hospital has arranged a place for him at UC Davis, and when it is determined he can leave ICU, he will be airlifted back to Sacramento. Phil's mom, Carol McCaulley, and wife, Elizabeth McCaulley (Thygeson), are staying in Hawaii with him.
They are hopeful for a good recovery, but that will take time. The McCaulley family is asking for prayers and good thoughts to be sent their way. But they undoubtedly are incurring incredibly large medical bills and expenses.
