The Magnificent Dunbar Hotel has been invited to the National Black Theatre Festival!!!
From the first preview on November 20, 2014 through closing December 28, 2014 the show was sold out every night INCLUDING the 7 added performances!
The play was a hit in LA. And what was not to like?
Twenty very talented actors. A Powerful Story written by Levy Lee Simon and directed by Robey's Co-Founder Ben Guillory. Music. Laughter. History. An imaginative story about real people told with passion, panache and unforgettable performances!
Come with us back to the 30s and 40s on Central Avenue in L.A., where jazz was the music of the day. Sunshine and palm trees, cruising on Central Avenue with ease, where Paul Robeson, The Duke, Ivie Anderson, Ethel Waters, Lena Horne performed your favorite songs, and intellectuals like W.E.B. Du Bois debated the politics going on, and where everyday folk felt right at home. Where was this place you might ask? This place to be, that had all that pizzazz, all that jazz? Well, do tell, do tell. Come with us back to The Magnificent Dunbar Hotel!!!
Now we get to share that story with the world at the 2015 National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
