Peter Ray Sr., my father, has been diagnosed with stage IV stomach cancer. Writing those words still seem unreal. It started with a pain in his back a couple months ago. He figured he might have pulled something during work. The doctor gave him pain medication, recommended to stretch the area out and it would go away. It didn't. He made a second trip to the doctor and was prescribed the same. So, he paid no mind to it, it'll go away in time. He continued working, BBQing with the family, and tending to the usual every day life. And then, the unexpected happened. He woke up with half of his face numb and double vision. Without hesitation he was emitted to the hospital and the fight began.
My father started with a CT scan on his head. Lesions were found. Doc's couldn't determine that it was cancer yet. It's ok, he'll be fine... they haven't determined that it IS cancer. Testing was continued on the days to follow. It's everywhere. The manifestation began in the stomach. Stomach Cancer. As you can imagine, this is not the type of news to take lightly. This is my father... MY father. The Duke of Earl. My saving grace.
He is currently undergoing Radiation to save his vision and Chemotherapy will begin next week. His love and positivity reassure me that he will get better. He is beyond grateful to all of the family and friends that have shown tremendous support in his time of need. He is the strongest man I know and he will make it through this.
My father is fighting to continue to go to his daughter & grandson's games, to throw some meat on the grill for Sunday family BBQ's, to go on the camping trips we've been planning, to hold his future grandchildren, to take his oldie for another drive, to live his life.
I have started this fundraiser to help alleviate medical costs as his current insurance will not be able to cover all expenses. Funds will also be used for home/business expenses as needed as he is currently unable to tend his business with Ray Plastering.
