Pepper's Surgery Fundraiser

Thank you for taking your time for taking an interest in our GoFundMe page. Our precious dog, Pepper, passed the other morning, and although we loved and cherished her very much, we know she's no longer in pain and in a better place. She left a very big pawprint on our hearts. Sadly, due to our finances, her medical bills have become a heavy burden on us. We'd like to thank you at this time for any support we get, as we understand it's a hard time for everyone right now.

We took Pepper into the emergency vet Sunday, August 31st because when we woke up we noticed that she wasn't responsive and couldn't move. We were at the Emergency Vet for hours while they did ultrasounds, taps, blood work, x-rays, and everything else they could to figure what was wrong with Pepper. She was unstable from the moment we got their, and after the blood test they were able to identify that she had some type of infection. Her blood pressure and blood sugar were very low, and she had a low white blood cell count making it difficult for her to fight the infection. They said she was severely dehydrated, and her heart beat was erratic. The vet discussed exploratory surgery with us, and after weighing the other options, we decided that we needed to do exploratory surgery to pinpoint the issue on Sunday night when she was more stable. After exploratory, the vet diagnosed her with pyometra, which gave her sepsis. They had to give her a full hysterectomy and clean her organs which were inflamed. The surgery was a success, however her heart rate remained erratic. Shortly after, the vet told us that her kidneys were close to failing and she was prone to a type of dog pneumonia. We, as well as the vet, were still hopeful for her recovery. Monday came and she was "critical but stable" which was better than she was Sunday, however we still had hope. Early Tuesday morning around 2:30am the vet called us with the earth-shattering news that Pepper had passed away due to cardiac arrest. When we signed the paper allowing CPR had such an event happened, we never thought it would. The vet and assistants did everything they could; but she wouldn't respond.

The vet assistants told us she wasn't in pain during this, as she was on pain medication from the surgery. She was responsive afterwards, and someone was always with her that weekend; be it us while we were allowed or the vet assistants. They could tell she was extremely loved and did their best to accommodate that.

We found Pepper on the side of the road in November, 2006. She was near-death and we rehabilitated her back to health. Her energy and personality were so amazing we couldn't see our lives without her; she was officially adopted when we carried her to our car. She had a long, healthy, spoiled, and pampered life with lots of love and attention and friends to play with (and occasionally chew on), and she will be missed every single day.

Again, any support is appreciated and we cannot thank you enough for your help.
