Occupational Therapy Adaptive Equipment Project
Our story. Hi there! We are a group of graduate students from the University of Saint Augustine located in Saint Augustine, Florida working on our master’s degree in occupational therapy. Each semester, in partnership with Saint Johns Housing Partnership, our Assisted Technology and Community Service course arranges a home adaptions project for one person or family in need.  They are selected based on their health status and financial needs, among many other factors. Our class is working to raise money for home adaptations that make the home accessible and safe.  These improvements will only be possible with the money we solely provide.

Meet the family.  Our client has had several strokes. She currently resides in a double wide mobile home. She currently sleeps in the living room because her bedroom is uninhabitable and she can only take sponge baths and use a bedside commode because she is unable to access the bathroom.  Our client has two care caregivers, her son and daughter that would love to help their mother, but have fallen under hard times themselves. The families goal is that she have her own private bedroom and to be able to take a shower again. By making some small changes, widening doorways, installing a shower seat, adding grab bars, and changing the flooring our client would be able to function effectively again and have an increase in quality of life.

We all have the same mindset in a health major based on humanity, selflessness, and love. We want nothing but the best quality of care for this family. We hope you can help us reach our goal and donate any amount of money you can. Your donation will greatly improve the lives of this family in so many ways.

Where will the money go?
The bathroom: New working toilet, grab bars, transfer bench, hand held shower head, new flooring, fresh coat of wall paint.

The bedroom: Ceiling repair (from old damage that was never repaired), new laminate flooring, door hinges, knobs, window locks, ceiling fan, fresh coat of wall paint.

Threshold ramp to covered porch: Ramp for ease of wheelchair and walker use, hand rails, 2 screen doors.

Cement platform
Concrete for the driveway

Lighting: Light bulbs, light fixtures, and flood lights for the outside.

Materials for all the reconstruction (paint, nails, sheetrock, tape, brushes, tools, etc)

Extras: Clothes Dryer, Non-slip mats, reacher, long-handled sponge, and any other adaptive equipment seen fit for the environment.
