Girl's Circle Mentoring Matters

About the "Girls Circle" at MS 391

The Girl’s Circle is an intimate group experience for girls who are presently in the 7th and 8th grades.
The purpose of The Girl’s Circle is to help provide a safe space for young women to discuss and deal with challenges and situations that they often face during their teenage years. The group actively engages students in service learning projects and develops self-esteem within a literacy club. The young women of The Girl’s Circle are able to openly discuss their experiences as it relates to their lives in a safe and supportive environment. The Girl’s Circle focuses on three primary goals:

*Providing opportunities for middle school girls to enhance their self-esteem raise their aspirations and increase self efficacy, which will intern promote a healthy lifestyle and positive choices as leaders in their community.
* Promote career based goals and new attitudes towards their future by enhancing their abilities to take full advantage of their talents, academic interest, career pursuits and potential for healthy relationships.
*Develop positive work ethic and establish positive relationships among counselors and fellow members of the group as well as female peers that would provide them with incentive to improve their daily attendance and create an optimistic attitude towards school.

These goals will be achieved through activities such as -:

-Groups focused on teaching and promoting: life skills, social skills, creating trust and team building
Trips
-Movies (Specific to healthy lifestyles for youth)
-Luncheons to promote etiquette and build social skills)
-Annual Youth conference at Long Island University hosted by The National Mentoring Partnership

This fundraiser is to help cover transportation costs for the National Mentoring Partnership conference in Long Island. The cost for a school bus is $480.
