Welcome to Operation Teddy Bear
On November 17,2013; an F4 tornado ripped through Washington, IL and surrounding towns. While the community has begun the slow process of rebuilding, many of it's smallest residents are still dealing with the aftermath. Storm anxiety is a common development after a traumatic event like a tornado. Operation Teddy Bear has been created as a means of addressing this issue.
Why Do You Need Money?
Any money we receive will be utilized to purchase fabric and materials to create the clothing for the bears. This project is entirely volunteer based. Through careful planning and cost considerations, we are able to create an outfit for roughly $2-$4 per bear. The $500 goal is to purchase enough supplies to keep the project running year round.
What Is a Storm Buddy?
A Storm Buddy is a teddy bear donated by a community member. Each bear is dressed in a custom made outfit by a volunteer seamstress. These clothes are created specifically and exclusively for our Storm Buddies. This provides each child with a one-of-kind bear that he/she can snuggly and play with; especially when their anxiety is hight.
